Inexpensive look and feel but a good peformer, July 16, 2016

    This review is from: HP Pavilion 15 15.6-Inch Laptop (AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 , 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD+/-RW, Webcam, Wifi, HDMI,Windows 10),Black (Personal Computers)
Bought this laptop on Prime Day thinking I was getting a $500-$800 Dollar laptop for $250. Well there may be a deal out there like that but this is not one of them. To be fair I must disclose that I am a user of a HP I7 ProBook for work and a MacBook Pro for photo editing so I know the look and performance of good hardware and software. The HP Pavilian was made with little frills on the outside but for the money it has great performance. It is not an $800 laptop for $250. It is a good preforming laptop made for Prime Day sales.
    PROs:
1 Great performance for the features I have used so far. It loads and runs the software I need it to run for my Ham Radio hobby where I am remotely controlling radio gear from anywhere in the world.
2 Great wireless connectivity. Manages the connections well and transfers connectivity seamlessly from access point to access point.
3 Not much bloat ware and I have been able to turn off or uninstall everything that I do not want so far.
    Cons:
1 The picture on Amazon is not the same unit I received. Not saying it is not the same model but the case is not the same as pictured on Amazon. The way in which it is described on Amazon leaves a lot of room for the manufacturer to change the units look during a manufacturing run.
2 Case is low end. Shows finger prints all too well. If you don’t want people to know you eat at greasy dives then don’t bring this laptop into the fast food joints you visit. Clean your hands thoroughly before handling or wear gloves.
3 Like I said no frills. NO keyboard lights such as “shift key” or “num lock”. “Power on” and “HD activity” LEDs are located on right side not visible to someone actually sitting in front of the laptop.
4 Screen is very reflective. Doesn’t bother me much but could be a distraction to some.
5 Mouse Pad is strange and will take some adjustment. Its texture is different from any other laptop I have ever used.

Fast, Great Price, But NOT for Lap Surfing, July 3, 2016

In terms of full disclosure, I have a preference for Chromebooks as everyday workhorses sense most of my activity is web-driven. Also, I have been an instructional technologist in the past, and have extensive experience training on Chromebooks, Macbooks, iPads, and PCs.

    Reason for Purchase
The only reason I purchased this item is that I wanted a cheap quad core processor and OS that would run a software product that performs better on a quad core Windows OS.

    Size and Ergonomics
This thing is giant! Yes, I read it was a 15.6″ screen before purchasing but the design is part of the issue. It forces the item off balance when I try to use it on my lap. As a touch typist, it really has been quite uncomfortable on my hands, wrists, and arms. I am going to keep it on a table and use my Chromebook for my lap because of this reason.

    Design
It has the click buttons at the bottom of the touchpad instead of just a full touchpad for entry and scrolling functions. I don’t care for it. I feel like it is 1999.

    Speed
It has fast startup – not as fast as a Chromebook but when considering all the processes it has to run to start, it is exceptional. It has a wonderful ease of setting up, clear directions, and simple screen commands. This unit has Windows 10 which is my preference to the prior versions, but you can choose for yourself.

    Software
It comes preinstalled with antivirus software – which I removed and put my own on. However, it is nice to have that trial if you don’t currently use a particular brand or strategy. You can also take advantage of an Office 365 trial if you desire. It has the MS Edge browser, so I immediately installed another browser.

    Overall thoughts:
If you want an inexpensive machine that is fast and don’t mind the screen size, this is a good decision. The product has a clunky design, which I attribute to the price point. I don’t have any regrets buying it because I didn’t expect a perfect machine with this processor at this price point. I recommend it, but give it 4 stars due to ergonomics and design.

As I have only been using this a few days, I will update this review if I have any future noteworthy information to share.
If you just need a machine to surf and price is a concern, also consider chromebooks or netbooks. You may get a more comfortable lap surfing experience.

Not Bad for Work!, July 26, 2016

When it arrived everything came complete, no damages, and well protected. As far as the laptop goes, the outside part of it Can get smudged from your finger prints. It’s fast for working in an office so don’t expect much on the gaming side. Overall it’s from a reliable brand and it should last a long time if treated well. Would definitely recommend.
